PAULIN J. HOUNTONDJI

Paulin J. HOUNTONDJI is Professor of philosophy at the University of Cotonou (Benin). His publications include: African Philosophy,Myth and Reality (translated by Henri Evans, 2nd edition, Indiana University Press, 1997); The Struggle for Meaning: Reflections on Philosophy, Culture and Democracy in Africa(translated by John Conteh-Morgan, Athens, Ohio University Press, 2002). He edited Endogenous knowledge: research trails (translated by Ayi Kwei Armah, Dakar, CODESRIA, 1997) and Economie et société au Bénin (Paris, L’Harmattan, 2000). Former Minister of Education, then Minister for Culture and Communication, he was from 1998 to 2002 Vice-President of the Paris based International Council for Philosophy and Humanistic Studies (CIPSH). He is Director of the African Centre for Advanced Studies in Porto-Novo (Benin), Vice-President of the Dakar based Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), and member of the Steering Committee of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies (FISP). | |
